Advanced standing
Advanced standing may be requested for courses that the student has successfully completed at another institution. These most commonly include:
Anatomy & Physiology I + Lab
Anatomy & Physiology II + Lab
Microbiology for Midwives + Lab
If you will be requesting Advanced Standing credit, you will be able to submit this form once you have been accepted into the program. Advanced standing forms must be submitted with enrollment contracts and will not be accepted prior to program acceptance or after the start of your first academic year.
ADVANCED STANDING FOR NURSES
FSTM is able to offer advanced standing for the first year of our three-year program to applicants who hold a current/active RN or LPN license. These applicants may begin the program as second year students. Please view our curriculum here. Exceptions to advanced standing:
Cultural Humility is required for all students
A self-paced Florida Law and Rule component will be included in the first year
The minimum requirements for clinical experiences (births, prenatal exams, etc.) and clinical credits does not change for advanced standing students.
This means that while advanced standing nurses can complete the program in two years, they are still required to complete the same amount of clinical experience and hours in this time period (this is regulated by state law around midwifery licensure).
Some students will need to take an extra semester of Clinical Lab after the last academic semester in order to finish these requirements.
